Hawk and Nature Watch and Walk
Saturday, September 22, 2007 - 10:00am to 12:00pm
Teneriffe Mountain Blueberry Farm, Milton NH

Presented by The Strafford Rivers Conservancy & Moose Mountains Regional Greenways

The Strafford Rivers Conservancy and Moose Mountains Regional Greenways presented a Hawk Watch and Nature Walk field workshop on Saturday, September 22. The workshop took place from 10 a.m. to noon on the Teneriffe Mountain Blueberry farm, located at 355 Teneriffe Rd. in Milton, NH. The 102-acre property is owned by Moose Mountains Regional Greenways Chairman of the Board Steve Panish and was recently conserved by Strafford Rivers Conservancy.

Tour Guide and Naturalist Mark Suomala led participants on a gentle climb through the woods up across the top of Teneriffe Mountain, describing the flora and fauna that we encountered along the way. At the top, we enjoy views of the blueberry fields below, the White Mountains in the distance, and some hawks! Mark also described the importance of Teneriffe Mountain to the regional watershed.

Mark has worked as field biologist for the Audubon Society of New Hampshire, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and the U.S.D.A. Forest Service. He has spent many hours watching migrating hawks in New Hampshire, and has given numerous hawk-identification workshops. He has a graduate degree in Environmental Studies from Antioch University. His website is www.marksbirdtours.com.

The workshop was free and open to the public.
